Resting Place

RESTING PLACE
There are some spots on earth where our souls seem to feel right at home. My family’s cottage on a lake in the Adirondacks is such a place for me. The cottage has been in my family long before I was alive and I've had the incredible privilege of spending many a summer, weekend, and vacation there throughout my life. As a child, it provided the backdrop for endless summers of make-believe and childhood ritual. As an adult, every inch of the place is imbedded in my mind, rich with vivid memories, sights, sounds, and smells. Each year that I make the pilgrimage, drive over the hill, and see the lake in the distance, I feel my soul settle in a way that it never does anywhere else or at any other time. And in that moment I know I have arrived and can finally rest.
